Specialist Intervention Service (Stalking)
Our Specialist Intervention Service supports individuals whose behaviour has become obsessive and or fixated on individuals. Those suitable for support via our service include where unwanted contact is within a DA context (e.g. following the ending of a relationship) and outside of this (e.g. where the victim is not known to the individual displaying harmful behaviours).
We recognise that situations can be complex and that people may not always identify their own behaviour in the same way as professionals or others involved. Our approach is therefore non-judgemental, respectful, and focused on helping individuals better understand their actions and make safer, healthier choices. The service is primarily accessed through professional referral pathways, including multi-agency processes and safeguarding arrangements. We work closely with partner agencies to ensure that risk is appropriately assessed and managed, while also providing a consistent and constructive space for change. Police and Probation Services are also able to make direct referrals into the service where there are concerns about behaviour and a need for early intervention or targeted support.
Support is delivered on a one-to-one basis by trained practitioners. This may include a structured intervention of sessions focused on:
- Identifying and understanding behaviours and how we can meet our needs in pro-social ways
- Developing awareness of boundaries and consent
- Building strategies to manage thoughts, feelings, and responses
- Supporting long-term behaviour change and non-harmful relationships
The service is delivered by an experienced team of practitioners with specialist knowledge in managing complex and high-risk behaviours. The team is supported by a dedicated Mental Health Consultant, ensuring that interventions are informed by clinical insight and responsive to underlying needs such as trauma, attachment, and emotional regulation. This combined approach enables us to deliver thoughtful, well-informed interventions that prioritise risk management. In some cases, where a structured intervention is not appropriate, we offer a case management approach, working alongside other services to ensure coordinated and proportionate support.
Our priority is always to promote safety, reduce risk, and support sustainable behaviour change.
